On Thursday, June 21st the Steel Toe Crew attended the event #geartogive, a charitable initiative to support Working Gear in their quest to help unemployed people re-enter the workforce by providing work clothing at no cost.
The #geartogive event took place at the Vancouver Club downtown and saw hundreds of attendees, all contributing to the cause with donations and/or working gear. A silent and not so silent auction took place and it was a lot of fun. The fundraising target for the event was about $30,000. The proceeds go directly to the annual operating costs of the charity.
Working Gear has a wide net that supports the community of Vancouver, with attention to often neglected areas. East Van: one of their collaborations is with ‘2 Paychecks Away’, a not for profit group that provides haircuts for the patrons on Wednesday evenings on Powell street (of course at no charge).
All the attendees somehow involve in bettering our community and provides hope to the homeless. Most noteworthy, this event was a stark reminder that everyone deserves respect, care, and dignity – qualities and needs that sometimes get taken for granted.
